Frequently Asked Questions
When should I book my first fitting?
I recommend booking your first appointment 6 to 8 weeks before your wedding day, plus an additional 3 weeks beyond that — so plan to reach out about 9 to 11 weeks before your wedding. Those additional weeks allow ample time for precise adjustments and any emergencies, so nothing ever feels rushed. If your wedding is sooner, call me — I will always tell you honestly what is possible.
Is there a fee for the first appointment?
Yes — the first appointment is $200, and it is a working appointment, not just a chat. I am putting years of expertise to work: I study your gown on you, pin only what it truly needs, and itemize and price every alteration for you. If you book your alterations with me, the $200 is applied toward your service.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring the shoes you will wear on your wedding day (the heel height sets your hem), the undergarments you plan to wear, and any accessories you have — veil, jewelry, hairpiece. If you are not sure what to wear under your gown, I will advise you on which bra, shapewear, or support will work best for your dress's design.
How much do alterations cost?
Every gown is different, so I price your alterations only after I have studied your dress in person, on you. At your first appointment I itemize every alteration and any add-ons, so you see exactly what each one costs before you decide — no surprises.
Do you redesign heirloom gowns?
Yes — redesigning a mother's or grandmother's wedding dress is one of my specialties. Redesign possibilities can only be explored in person, when I can examine the gown itself, so book an appointment and bring the dress with you.
Can you change the style of my gown — the neckline, straps, sleeves, or waistline?
Very often, yes. A redesign can explore a new neckline, added straps or sleeves, a reshaped skirt, or a reworked waistline. What is possible depends on your gown, and I can only judge that in person, studying the dress on you.
Do you only alter wedding gowns?
Bridal is my specialty, and I also alter bridesmaid dresses, mother-of-the-bride and mother-of-the-groom dresses, prom and evening wear. My brides often come back to me afterward for their everyday alterations, too.
Do you make custom gowns?
Yes — and in 2027 I am launching my own bridal collection, made to measure: I personally take each bride's measurements, and every gown is made for her. Brides who have followed my work for years have been waiting for this, and so have I.
Where are you located, and when are you open?
My showroom is at 27 Chestnut Avenue in Summit, New Jersey. I am open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with the last appointment taken at 4 PM. Appointments are private — when you book, the showroom is yours.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book right on my website, at sandraelizabethdiazbridal.com — look for "Book an Appointment" — or call me at (347) 251-7423.
Where can I park?
The easiest parking is the lot diagonally across from my showroom, next to the church and the old fire house — about $6 for the whole day, so you never have to watch the clock during your appointment. There is also one metered space right in front of the shop. Please don't park in the senior residences' parking area — cars without a resident permit are towed.
